The letter she never sent

After years of almost-love, she saw him in a photo with someone else, happy in a way he used to look at her.
She wrote him a letter she would never send:
You were my safe place.
You reminded me I was still worthy.
But I won’t ask for your heart.
I just wanted to say thank you, for helping me find mine.
Entitlement would’ve told her he belonged to her, but maturity whispered: Some loves only come to remind you who you are.
Sad though, however she chose the right response. Some loves come to remind us of our worth; they do not come to stay.
