The Architecture of a Strong Relationship Series – Part 4

Windows and Doors as Openness and Vulnerability

Windows bring light into a house, just as openness brings clarity into relationships. Doors, meanwhile, symbolize the choice of who and what to let in.

Vulnerability: Being emotionally open and honest without fear of judgment. How? Try opening up about your personal struggles, doubts, or past wounds without having the fear of being judged. Do well to express your true feelings instead of bottling them up. Also, talk about aspirations, fantasies, life goals, or dreams even if they seem unrealistic.

Selective openness: Knowing when to seek external wisdom (mentors, counseling) while also protecting intimacy from unnecessary intrusion.

Keeping the windows shut for too long can make the relationship feel stagnant, while leaving doors wide open can invite unwanted influences. This therefore calls for wisdom.
