Returning to the wasteland, the courage to go back and heal.

Inspired by Simba’s Return to Pride Rock

Character Context

When Simba returns to the Pride Lands, he finds them destroyed. Scar is king, the land is dry, the animals are starving, and the lionesses are worn out. Healing doesn’t happen in comfort. Simba had to confront his greatest fear: his past.

The Wasteland Within

We all have a “Pride Rock” inside our hearts, our homes, our broken relationships. Over time, unattended pain and lies leave destruction. But restoration begins when we return, not to suffer, but to reclaim, to forgive and to rise.

Real-Life Confrontations

  • Apologizing or forgiving where there’s been deep hurt
  • Returning to a dream or purpose you gave up
  • Rebuilding family trust
  • Going to therapy to face what you’ve ignored for years

Case Study

Kojo, 38, had a strained relationship with his mother after years of resentment. He avoided her for over a decade. One day, he went back, had the hard conversation and healing began. The family is now rebuilding, one brick at a time.

What This Teaches Us

Running from pain gives it power. Facing it gives you power.

Reflection Questions

  • What part of your past or identity have you been avoiding?
  • What would it look like to “go back” and reclaim your healing?
  • Who might need to hear your truth or your forgiveness?
